DoctorLumen is a beta tester and a level moderator for Mega Man Maker. He joined the development team alongside moderator BigMaster and Objectionable during 1.7.0's development on August 23, 2020.

He has made various YouTube gameplays of levels in Mega Man Maker, including levels made by him or other users. After 1.6.0's release, DoctorLumen helped with testing the Build Online function. In the team, he made the silent NSF for the Mega Man 2 Wily 6 theme in addition to his work as a tester. DoctorLumen offered to be a level moderator after 1.7.0's release.

The day the servers died and the wiki had to be redone, DoctorLumen helped recovering data, before the creation of the Wiki Strike Team, alongside Luigi and TheButcherKevin.

The Wiki Strike Team is a team of 13 members currently helping to repair the Mega Man Maker Official Wiki after the server and most of the websites were damaged in July 2021. The team members were selected after a discussion between Goldstorm and Midas Magnezone.

Before the wiki was brought back online, the Strike Team assisted by gathering web archives and caches of numerous pages, as well as creating and providing countless images to be uploaded. After the Wiki was open, the strike team started to work in the process of rebuilding and restoring individual pages on the Wiki. To facilitate the task, members that were not Wiki moderators prior to the server's damage were given temporary moderation permissions.

The Wily Challenge is a game mode in Mega Man Maker, introduced in version 1.4.0. It can be found in the online menu. The Wily Challenge is a mode in which the player plays through multiple user created levels in a row at random with a limited number of lives. The total amount of levels played in the challenge depends on the settings chosen by the player before starting.

Gameplay Changes
While playing Wily Challenge, some features differ from traditional gameplay.

* The player has a limited number of lives in this mode instead of infinite lives. The amount of lives remaining is also indicated below the player's health bar.
* The item Life gives the player an extra life in this mode like in official Mega Man games, while also healing the player to full health. Prior to 1.5.0, the Life simply added a life to the life counter in this mode, but since 1.5.0, it performs both functions. No more than three lives can be obtained in a same level, so collecting a fourth 1-up item does not recharge lives, although it will still recharge the health bar.
* E-Tanks and M-Tanks obtained in a level are carried over into the next level played in this mode.
* A new "Skip" button is added to the pause menu and appears only in this mode. It allows the player to skip the current level and play a new one. Originally this option cost a life, but to reduce the user frustrations and mitigate instances like repeated levels, the challenge was modified in version 1.5.0 so that choosing this option would only cost a life if the player has 10 HP or less or while airborne. In such cases, it cannot be used if the player has only 1 life remaining.
* Using either the "Retry" or "Checkpoint" buttons in the pause menu will also now cost 1 life. As a result, both are unusable with only 1 life remaining.

Lives & Levels
In the Wily Challenge, the player can pick the following settings before starting a run:

* Length determines how many total levels the player must beat to win the challenge. Length also determines the appearance of the Wily Castle.
* Lives determines how many lives the player starts with in the challenge, and can be set to anywhere from 1 to 100.
* Quality determines the quality range of the levels played in the challenge.
* Difficulty determines the difficulty range of the levels in the challenge. It was implemented in version 1.7.3.
By default, the settings are set to medium length, 50 lives, a quality range from Average to Amazing, and a difficulty range from Easy to Hard.

Prior to version 1.7.3, the player could only the set the minimum quality of levels found in the Wily Challenge instead of a quality range.

Length
* "Short" - 5 levels
* "Medium" - 10 levels
* "Long" - 20 levels

Quality
* "Awful"
* "Bad"
* "Good"
* "Amazing"

Difficulty
* "Very Easy"
* "Easy"
* "Normal"
* "Hard"
* "Very Hard"
* "True Despair"

Settings in v1.6.3 and below
Prior to version 1.7.0, there were two settings that can be changed by the player: difficulty and length. The Difficulty determined the amount of lives the player starts with when they begin the challenge.

Lives (v1.4.0 - v1.6.3)
* "Easy" - Lives equals level total multiplied by 5
* "Normal" - Lives equals level total multiplied by 3
* "Hard" - Lives equals level total multiplied by 1

Lives in Relation to Levels (v1.4.0 - v1.6.3)
* "Short, Easy" - 25 Lives
* "Short, Normal" - 15 Lives
* "Short, Hard" - 5 Lives
* "Medium, Easy" - 50 Lives
* "Medium, Normal" - 30 Lives
* "Medium, Hard" - 10 Lives
* "Long, Easy" - 100 Lives
* "Long, Normal" - 60 Lives
* "Long, Hard" - 20 Lives

Ending The Challenge
Certain actions taken during a Wily challenge will result in the challenge ending.

Exit
Selecting the "Exit" button from the pause menu will immediately end the challenge and return the player to the online menu. The player will not be able to view all the levels completed during their play session if "Exit" is selected, nor will they be able to resume the run.

Game Over
When the player runs out of lives, they will get a Game Over and fail the challenge. They will also be given a "Funny Quote" at random, as well as three options.
* "Retry" - Restarts the Wily Challenge with the same settings from the beginning, but a different set of random levels will be chosen. This also resets the player's amount of E-tanks or M-tanks to 0. A glitch in older versions allowed them to keep their E-tanks or M-tanks.
* "Show Levels" - The player will be shown all levels they have completed, and the level the player received a Game Over in, in their current play session, giving information with regards to level rating, level name, and creator's name. Any levels that are skipped will not appear in the level list. The player has the choice to download and vote on all of these levels. From this level list screen the player can select "Retry" or "Back To Menu".
* "Back To Menu" - This will return the player to the online menu.
Challenge Completion
The challenge is successfully completed and ends when the total number of levels the player selects at the beginning of the challenge are completed.

The Wily Castle will be shown being destroyed, followed by a victory fanfare that will play and a congratulatory message will appear.

The player will then be shown all levels they have completed in their current play session, giving information with regards to level rating, level name, and creator's name. The player has the choice to download and vote on all of these levels. Any levels that are skipped will not appear in the level list. From this level list screen the player can select "Retry" or "Back To Menu".

* "Retry" - Restarts the Wily Challenge with the same settings from the beginning, but a different set of random levels will be chosen.
* "Back To Menu" - This will return the player to the online menu.

Trivia
* Despite the mode being called Wily Challenge, the character Dr. Wily does not make any appearances during it.
* This mode's castle cutscenes between levels closely resembles the fortress level cutscenes from the official Mega Man games.
** This mode's castle cutscenes and cutscene music differ depending on the total number levels selected before starting the challenge.
*** There are 3 different Wily Castles the player will encounter depending on the length selected for their Wily Challenge. A Short challenge will have the player fighting through Wily's Castle from Mega Man 3, a Medium challenge will have the player fighting through Wily's Castle from Mega Man 6, and a Long challenge will have the player fighting through a new unique Wily Castle exclusively made for Mega Man Maker, though it does somewhat resemble some of Wily's Castles from the Game Boy Mega Man games. This could be intentional or coincidence.
* This mode, in concept, somewhat resembles the 100 Mario Challenge from Super Mario Maker.
* On the Game Over screen, the playable character that appears is the last one used by the player before their lives reached 0.
** Each playable character has their own unique "defeat pose" in the Game Over screen.
* A large portion of the Game Over screen quotes are memes or parodies of them.
* Occasionally, an oddity will occur which will cause the same level to be played multiple times in a row, even if skipped or completed. According to an official statement, the cause of the oddity was originally stated to be not a bug or glitch, only bad RNG. However it has also been stated it may be the result of bad coding on the part of Game Maker, which the game is made in.
* As some older levels created in Mega Man Maker are broken due to more recent updates, some levels that appear in the challenge may be impossible to beat. In this case, using the "Skip" button may be mandatory to continue the challenge.
* On the live stream for 1.7.0 where the development team answered questions from the community, in response to a question asking if there were any features the development team regretted adding to Mega Man Maker, WreckingPrograms stated that he regretted adding the Wily Challenge feature before the game had a proper server infrastructure to support it. He added that the game mode would have benefited from proper difficulty and quality filters added in 1.7.0 that did not exist when Wily Challenge was added in 1.4.0 to make the game mode less random.
* A sneak peak of the difficulty options for Wily Challenge was posted by Alex in the #community_announcements channel of the Discord server on January 16, 2021. A histogram of the rated levels was attached along with information about the planned difficulty ranges.
** The hardest difficulty option, True Despair, was instead called "Impossible" in the sneak peak.

Glitches
* The player's username or N/A will occasionally show up instead of the actual level creator's name for some levels, this may be an error handler to ensure Mega Man Maker does not crash if the level creator's name is unable to be correctly loaded.
* Alternatively, the level data of a different level that the Player recently played will appear as that of the data of the Player is about to play. This may also be the result of an error handler preventing the game from crashing but isn't confirmed. The data does however appear to display properly if viewed after the Player has beaten the challenge or gotten a game over.
* When playing Wily Challenge with an unstable internet connection, Mega Man Maker may completely soft-lock if it is unable to access the internet, when trying to search for level data between stages. It is currently unknown if this is a design oversight, or intentional.

The Wily Challenge is a game mode in [Mega Man Maker], introduced in version 1.4.0.

Length
* "Short" - 5 levels
* "Medium" - 10 levels
* "Long" - 20 levels

* "Amazing"

Difficulty
* "Very Easy"
* "Easy"
* "Normal"
* "Hard"
* "Very Hard"
* "True Despair"

* "Short, Easy" - 25 Lives
* "Short, Normal" - 15 Lives
* "Short, Hard" - 5 Lives
* "Medium, Easy" - 50 Lives
* "Medium, Normal" - 30 Lives
* "Medium, Hard" - 10 Lives
* "Long, Easy" - 100 Lives
* "Long, Normal" - 60 Lives
* "Long, Hard" - 20 Lives

* "Funny Quote"

Length
* "Short" - 5 levels
* "Medium" - 10 levels
* "Long" - 20 levels

* "Easy"
* "Normal"
* "Hard"
* "Very Hard"
* "True Despair"

* "Short, Easy" - 25 Lives
* "Short, Normal" - 15 Lives
* "Short, Hard" - 5 Lives
* "Medium, Easy" - 50 Lives
* "Medium, Normal" - 30 Lives
* "Medium, Hard" - 10 Lives
* "Long, Easy" - 100 Lives
* "Long, Normal" - 60 Lives
* "Long, Hard" - 20 Lives

* "Funny Quote"
* What a loser!
* You were close - don't give up!
* Keep trying to do your best!
* You're doing great! Keep going!
* Want to try again?
* Better luck next time!

Version 1.0.0 is the first release of Mega Man Maker (back when it was known as “Mega Maker”), released on July 15, 2017. According to the trailer and the original website, it included 46 enemies, 29 level objects, 12 bosses, 24 special weapons, 40 backgrounds, 129 tilesets, and 63 music tracks.

The title screen had a dark blue electronic background and featured the "Mega Maker" logo, which had a very small chance of getting replaced with the Japanese version of it. The menu options were turquoise rectangles with big gray outlines, and the bigger boxes in the menus had bolts at the corners. The title screen also had music that was different than the one in use since 1.1.0, and the music for the online menus was the same as regular menus. The game's ZIP file contained a splash.png file that was in the game up until version 1.0.4 and S-WinAmp.dll that was replaced in 1.0.2.

The icons used in the Level Builder were different. The weapons menu for the level had the Rolling Cutter as an icon. The pickups were listed alongside the objects. In level settings, the option to enable or disable the Charge Shot and the slide were in a checklist and the statement had an "Enable". The buster could be changed by two red arrows around the current option, where the Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6 options could be selected, and the Mega Man 6 was the default one. In the settings of a boss, the primary weakness, the second weakness and immunity could be enabled or disabled in a checklist and the option had an "Enable" before the respective weapon setting. For the boss music, there was a "Boss music" button instead of the single quaver of later installments.

The Example Levels released with the game were taken from a level contest held during the development of 1.0.0. The contest was held in a separate Discord server from the one for the development team.

Almost all the menus and the interface for the Level Builder received a complete redesign in the 1.1.0 update.

<small>This page is for information on the online menu of Mega Man Maker. For information on the cooperative online building feature of the Level Builder, see Build Online.</small>

The Online feature of Mega Man Maker allows players to play uploaded levels that have been created in the Level Builder.

To access the online features of Mega Man Maker, the player must first input their account password. Once the password has been inputted correctly, the player is free to play levels uploaded to the Mega Man Maker server and is able to upload their own levels. To ensure that the level is solvable, the level must be beaten by its creator before it can be uploaded. A user can upload no more than 100 levels.

In 1.7.0, the server received an overhaul in order to optimize the user experience and loading. Many online features were either added or changed.
* Email verification and password reset options were added in order to facilitate account recovery options and to discourage alternate accounts.
* Instead of an overall score that is the difference between the likes and dislikes for a level, both values are shown separately. Levels are also graded by quality based on the number of likes and dislikes.
* Level searching received more options to narrow down results.
* Levels can be reported if they are offensive, inappropriate, unbeatable, stolen, or for other reasons mentioned by a user. Level moderators also received special tools to deal with reports.
* Server space was increased resulting in more levels that can be uploaded by a user.
* The number of deaths in a level are recorded to calculate the difficulty rating of a level for the difficulty options of the Wily Challenge game mode.
* A level can only be uploaded every 30 minutes.

For more information on the server rewrite and API documentation, see this

The user level upload limit was increased from 10 to 20 in 1.2.0, 30 in 1.7.0, 50 in 1.7.1, 75 in 1.7.2, and 100 in 1.7.4.

Due to the overhaul, the team opened a position for level moderators to receive level reports and delete problematic levels. The discussion for level moderation is done in a private channel in the public Discord server.

Options
* Play: Brings the user to a menu where they can find uploaded levels to play, or play the Wily Challenge game mode
* My Profile: List the user's account statistics and uploaded levels
* Upload: Allows the user to go through the process of uploading a level to the server
* Back: Exits the Online Menu and returns the user to the Main Menu

Features
* Play levels that have been uploaded to Mega Man Maker's server
* Like and dislike levels after playing them at least once, regardless if completed or not
* Upload a level, and have it accessible by others on the server
* Download a level for offline use
* Search for levels via keywords and level ID
* Sort levels by a variety of parameters
* Play the Wily Challenge game mode

Level Search
The level search allows the player to look for levels by title. The search contains words that should appear in the title of the level, ignoring common words like "a", "the" or "in". Since version 1.7.0, the player can also use symbols to search for level titles with particular parameters:
* Include (+ or no symbol): Search for levels that contain a particular query
** e.g. mega man searches for levels that contain both "mega" and "man"
* Exclude (- or !): Search for levels that exclude a query
** e.g. mega -wily searches for levels that contain "mega" and excludes levels that contain "wily"
* Alternate (* or ?): Search for levels that contain at least one of the specified queries
** e.g. mega ?wily ?light ?cossack searches for levels that contain "mega" and at least one of "wily", "light" or "cossack"
* Sequence >: Search for levels that contain two or more queries in the specified order
** e.g. metal>man searches for levels that contain "metal man" as two words in that order
* Multiple (,): Search for levels that contain multiple queries
** e.g. mega man, dr. wily searches for levels that either contain "mega" and "man", or contain "dr" and "wily"

Symbols between words or parts can be repeated, like a>b>c or a b, c d, e, and also strung together, like metal man, metal>man.

Sort Function
The player can sort the level list by one of nine categories. All sort functions except "Random" can also be used in conjunction with the level search to further narrow down search results. Levels are automatically sorted by "Newest" when opening the "Find Levels" tab for the first time after opening the game.

As a result of the server overhaul in version 1.7.0, the "Best Quality" option was added.

The nine categories to sort by are:

* Newest: Loads the latest levels uploaded to the server
* Most popular: Loads levels uploaded in the past seven days with the best quality rating
* Oldest: Loads the oldest levels uploaded to the server
* Best quality: Loads levels overall with the best quality rating
* Best rating: Loads levels overall with the highest score
* Worst rating: Loads levels overall with the lowest score
* Most played: Loads levels overall with the most amount of plays
* Least played: Loads levels overall with the least amount of plays
* Random: Loads a random list of levels. The level list is randomized every time the menu is changed or the option is selected.
All characters are capable of moving left and right, as well as jumping, shooting, and climbing ladders. In addition, all characters are capable of using one weapon with infinite ammo, as well as up to 11 extra weapons which have limited ammo. All characters have a total of 28 health, along with 28 ammo per limited weapon, which can be restored through the use of pickups and weapons. == .MMLV File Format ==

.MMLV is the file format used to store data about a Mega Man Maker level.

These files can be edited with certain text editing programs, such as Notepad and some others. Editing the text in these files can change various aspects of the level, including removing limitations on what text characters can and cannot be used in a level's name, how long level names can be, and even how various assets in the level function.

Playing a text edited level files may in some instances cause crashing, glitches, or other oddities to occur that otherwise would not. This could be caused by the player text editing certain values assigned to assets in ways they are not normally intended to be used.

To access .MMLV files saved in-game, they are located in %localappdata%/MegaMaker/Levels on a computer with a Windows operating system. The files may be in another location for computers running Windows through software such as Wine on other operating systems.

Trivia
* Luigi has stated that menus have a bit of empty space around them so users can click out of them.
* When a level has been named and saved at least once, the Level Builder will periodically attempt to autosave the level in case something goes wrong, such as crashes, softlocks, or the game being suddenly closing. This may cause the game to lag while editing large levels.
