Pierobot (also known as Pierrobot) is a small clown robot balancing on a large gear. This robot type was known as the most popular robots in the robot circus. Pierobots were originally intended for entertaining audiences but were repurpose for combat by Dr. Wily. They are enemies that originate from Mega Man 2 from Metal Man's stage.

Behavior

When Pierobot spawns, a large gear will float in the air spinning, until a robot clown quickly falls onto it. When the clown robot lands on the large gear, the gear will fall to the ground and start rolling quickly in the clown robot's facing direction, with the clown robot balancing itself on top of the gear. It can cause contact damage to the player by colliding with them.

If the large gear is attacked and destroyed, regardless if the clown robot is riding on the large gear or falling towards the large gear to land on it, the clown robot will fall downwards, passing through all solid tiles, until it eventually despawns downwards off-screen. The separated clown robot can still cause contact damage to the player if it collides with them while falling. If the large gear is destroyed fast enough the moment it appears on-screen, the falling clown robot will not spawn at all.

If the clown robot on top of the large gear is attacked and destroyed, while the large gear is already rolling, the gear will continue rolling on its own, but at a slower speed. The separated large gear can still cause contact damage to the player if it collides with them while rolling slower. The clown robot will fall of the gear if it collides with terrain and the gear will spin on its own.

If the falling clown robot is attacked and destroyed before landing on the gear to make it move, the large gear will not move and continue to spin in place. The large gear spinning in place can still cause contact damage to the player if they collide with it.

Level Builder

Pierobot can be set to face left or right.

Trivia

  • Pierobot's name is a combination of the words "Pierrot" and "Robot".
  • The enemy is referred to as "Gear Clown" in both the Nintendo Power magazine and the Captain N: The Game Master cartoon, but this name is not canon.
