Sniper Joes are one of most common types of enemies seen in the classic Mega Man Series and are as such featured in Mega Man Maker. Sniper Joes are mostly enemies that first block fire, then attack, but there are exceptions to this rule.

This Sniper Joe is the regular same Sniper Joe available in Mega Man Maker, which is the second form of Joe that has appeared in Mega Man. It appeared in most of Mega Man 2's levels, in the Robot Master stages in a Sniper Armor, and outside of an armor at Wily stages 1 and 4.

This Joe attacks by shooting three bullets in a straight line, and then returns to the shield coverage stance. It is at its most vulnerable to frontal attacks when it is shooting the three bullets, although it is more durable than most types of Joe. When using its shield, it can be attacked in parts not protected by it, like its legs and its head. It can be jumped over, although their shots can make it harder.

Unlike its predecessor in Mega Man 1 the Returning Joe will not jump nor walk. This began the trend of the Joe line being mostly immobile.

Hammer Joe

Information
Category: Enemies
Game of origin: Mega Man 3
HP: 8
Damage: 4 (contact)

2 (projectile)

The Hammer Joe is the third variant of the Joe line. It appears in most of Mega Man 3's stages. Its pattern consists on making a ball and chain spin before opening its eyes just before throwing the ball and chain in a straight line, high enough for the player to slide underneath and simultaneously low enough for the player to jump over it. The Hammer Joe can only be damaged when its eye is open, and otherwise it reflects attacks.

When thrown, the ball and chain "hammer" can deflect projectiles.

Skeleton Joe

Game of origin: Mega Man 4
HP: 3
Damage: 4 (contact)

2 (projectile)

The Skeleton Joe is the fourth edition of the Joe line. It appears in Skull Man's stage, as well as the first stage of Cossack's Citadel in Mega Man 4.

Skeleton Joes attack by throwing bones in an arc. Currently, Skeleton Joes are the only Joe type in Mega Man Maker to not actively block fire; Instead, when hit, they fall down into pieces, temporarily becoming invincible before reforming. During this "broken" phase, the player can walk through the enemy without being harmed.

HP: 3
Damage: 6 (contact)

8 (projectile)

The Crystal Joe is the fifth version of the Joe, appearing in Crystal Man's stage, and the second stage of Proto Man's castle.

This variation of Joe first builds up its power to create a crystal, and then they launch in a straight line. These crystals can be slid under. The crystals deal great damage, and when shot, they can deflect projectiles.

Like the Hammer Joe, Crystal Joe could only be hit while attacking. Most attacks will not damage them while it is charging. However, it has low resistance to attacks, so it can be easy to destroy when it is not charging a crystal.

Damage: 4 (contact)

2 (projectile) 4 (grenade)

The Joe Classic is a version of the Sniper Joe that appeared in Mega Man 8 and Mega Man & Bass. This variant of the Sniper Joe waits in the same zone and can do any movement. The Joe Classic can always jump regardless of the distance it has from the player character. If the player is far from it, it will also shoot one pellet, and if the player comes close, it will throw a grenade at the player and will crouch until the grenade explodes. When still, bombarding one with frontal shots will make it use its shield to block the projectiles and will not do anything else unless the player stops shooting it. However, the Joe Classic can be still vulnerable if the player targets points not covered by its shield, like part of its head.

While crouching after launching a grenade, he will be able to avoid frontal small buster shots, but is otherwise vulnerable to attacks.

Trivia

  • Even though Sniper Joe first appeared in Mega Man 1, Mega Man Maker only has his reappearance from Mega Man 2.
  • In Mega Man 8, attempting to attack the Joe Classic in the legs or in the head from a frontal point does not work. Conversely, the Flash Bomb's explosions originally could harm a Joe Classic if the bomb collides with its shield, but not in Mega Man Maker. However, it will inevitably move and the explosions can harm it then.
  • The 8-bit sprite of the Joe Classic was designed by Zedicon.
