Top Spin is Top Man's signature weapon, originating from Mega Man 3 and reappearing in Mega Man: II and Mega Man: The Wily Wars. It is featured in Mega Man Maker as of version 1.0.0.

This weapon allows the user to spin rapidly to damage enemies with direct contact, and is unique in that it can only be used while airborne. Holding the attack key and jumping will make the user do a full jump, regardless of how long the jump key was held. If the user touches an enemy from above while spinning, they will bounce upward 3 tiles (or 8 tiles when underwater). Otherwise indestructible enemies such as Spine can be bounced on as well, although they will not be hurt by this. Additionally, the weapon only consumes energy if contact is made with an enemy, and it is capable of defeating Wanaan. Attempting to hit an enemy from below or the sides when they have less than 2 HP will result in the user getting hurt instead.

If Bass bounces off of an enemy after doing a dash jump, he will not lose momentum. Finally, Top Spin will only stop once the player touches the ground or switches weapons, so certain level objects and enemies such as Magfly and Fans can be used to keep the user spinning.

Trivia

  • Top Spin is the first melee weapon to appear in the series.
  • In Mega Man 3, Top Spin could instantly defeat certain enemies, and was unable to damage the rest of them. It would also drain weapon energy based how many frames of contact the player had with their target. This was fixed in Mega Man: The Wily Wars, where it uses a consistent 1 unit of energy. Top Spin's energy consumption rate in Mega Man Maker is based off of this.
