Mega Man 8 (released as "Rockman 8: Metal Heroes" in Japan) is the eighth game in the classic Mega Man series, released on December 17, 1996 in Japan. It was the first Mega Man game released for the PlayStation in Japan and the United States. It was also released for the Sega Saturn in 1997. The game is most known for its terrible voice acting and difficulty spikes in some sections.

In Mega Man Maker

Version 1.5.0 focused on adding content from this game and from Mega Man 9. As of Version 1.7.5, there are 2 bosses, 12 enemies, 5 level objects, 23 tilesets, 20 backgrounds, 5 weapons, 9 spikes, 12 ladders and 23 music tracks available from Mega Man 8 in Mega Man Maker.

Other

  • The Sega Saturn release of Mega Man 8 has a few changes compared to the original PlayStation release, the main ones being that Cut Man and Wood Man are hidden bosses with new boss themes (Cut Man is hidden in Duo's Stage, while Wood Man in Search Man's Stage) and Tengu Man's stage has a different theme. These three music themes are all present in Mega Man Maker.
  • Mega Man 8 has a number of distinctions compared to other games in the Mega Man classic series:
    • It is so far the only mainstream Mega Man game that has full-motion video cutscenes.
    • It is the second Mega Man game where Mega Man can swim. (The first was Mega Man 3 for DOS.)
    • It is so far the only Mega Man game with no Yoku Blocks.
    • It is the only game after Mega Man 6 where neither Rush Coil nor Rush Jet are available. (There are however Rush Jet sections in Tengu Man's stage and Wily Stage 2 where the player is piloting Rush Jet.)
