Acidic Mineshaft (formerly named Abandoned Mine) is an example level created by GamerFromTheWeb. This level tasks the player to traverse through a mineshaft filled with lethal Chemical Solution, often across moving blocks.
Walkthrough
Entrance: Upon starting the level, there are some basic enemies and platforming challenges to deal with before going down. Afterwards, upon reaching a ladder, one of the level's main gimmicks will show, that being Mobile Push Blocks that will travel over lethal Chemical Solution, requiring the player to ride them. Continuing to climb and dealing with various Lyrics, Chainsoars, and Fukuhorns, the player will reach the level's first major challenge.
The First Ride: The player will drop onto a Mobile Push Block with another a few tiles ahead holding a Fukuhorn out of reach. Health and Energy pickups do not drop in this section, so survival is very important. As it goes on, the player must deal with enemies swarming them and Force Beams to avoid before reaching the next section. This section ends with a ladder climb and a short platforming/enemy challenge before reaching a Checkpoint.
The Split Path: Upon reaching the checkpoint, there is a hidden alternate path accessed by sliding through the gap in the left wall. However, the normal path entails dealing with Octopus Batterys and Chainsoars in confined rooms. The third room introduces Move Hovers, which must be used to platform across. Near the top is another checkpoint.
On the alternate path, the player must wake multiple Kakinbatanks to progress, alongside the usual threats. This path also contains Move Hover puzzles that reward an M-Tank upon success, but missing a jump will send the player several screens back. At the end is a slide passage leading to the final room of the main path.
The Second Ride: The player must quickly jump onto a Mobile Push Block rolling past. This ride will require the player to defeat various enemies, as well as using Move Hovers to avoid spikes. Halfway through, there is a cubby that can be accessed with Bounce Ball for health and energy. Like with the first ride, enemy drops are disabled in this section. Climbing the ladder at the end will give one final enemy challenge before the next checkpoint.
Deeper in The Mineshaft: The player must drop through several dangerous rooms. The first contains lethal Chemical Solution and Lyrics. The second has a floor of chemicals, where riding another Mobile Push Block is needed to avoid falling in while a Fukuhorn shoots from above. The third is two Chainsoars in a tight room. The fourth requires fighting Fukuhorns on small platforms above Chemical Solution, however falling in can allow the player to skip the next room at the cost of health. The fifth requires the player to climb a ladder quickly before they are crushed by a stack of Mobile Push Blocks. Afterwards, the player must move and platform over various spikes and Move Hovers, dealing with a few more enemies along the way. Climbing the ladder at the end leads to two more rooms of enemy challenges before the next checkpoint.
The Third Ride: The third ride is similar to the first, with a Fukuhorn shooting from an out of reach Mobile Push Block. However, the platforming is much more strict, requiring quick movement of Move Hovers to avoid several waves of Force Beams and spikes. Upon reaching the end, a Hyoey is fought before the final checkpoint. Afterwards, ride the Lift Elevator up and enter the boss room, where all weapons except Solar Blaze and Mega Buster will be disabled.
Boss: Upon entering the boss room, Splash Woman will appear and drop at the back of a structure of Mobile Push Blocks. However, she is immune to the buster, and Solar Blaze will not deal enough damage to defeat her. She also does not end the level when defeated, so she is more of a hazard until you reach the Energy Element at the end of the room. The fight plays out similarly to the previous rides, except with much more precise platforming, Splash Woman's tridents, and another Hyoey partway through. Upon reaching the end, jump up to collect the Energy Element and end the level.
Changes Between Versions
- Two extra paths were added.
- The first, to the left of the start, contains a sprite of Big Fish made out of colored Shadows. It also contains no floor, meaning the player will die from a pit upon entering.
- The second, to the left of a room about halfway through. This path contains several small weapon energy pickups and an E-Tank. However, it does not appear possible to access it.
- Decorations have been added across the stage.
- The majority of spikes throughout the stage have been replaced with lethal Chemical Solution over pits.
- Multiple checkpoints have been made non-solid and invisible.
- A handful of rooms have been redesigned.
Trivia
- This level is the first (and currently only) example level to be renamed between updates.
