Lava is a level hazard originating in the first Mega Man game and was added to Mega Man Maker in version 1.8.4.

Lava is an instant death hazard that can be applied to levels in the Level Builder in the same way as Water tiles. Along with the player, Lava will kill almost all enemies and bosses aside from a few exceptions such as the Cossack Catcher.

Lava can be frozen by ice-based weapons, level objects, enemies, or bosses. Once frozen it is harmless and can be touched by the player like regular tiles. Conversely, fire-base weapons, level objects, or enemies can reactivate frozen Lava making it dangerous to the player again. When spawned in, one-tile wide vertical sections of frozen Lava will crumble allowing the player to go through what was once impassable.

The snow variant of the Tel Tel causes Lava to be frozen and cannot be unfrozen while the heat variant causes Lava to always be unfrozen.

Trivia

  • Lava was initially planned for 1.8.0 but was delayed to 1.8.4 due to its implementation not being complete.[1]
  • During development, the development team discussed whether lava should be solid or non-solid. The Lava Hover (and consequently the Water Hover) and Lava Hover Saver were eventually created to mimic solid ground.[2]
