According to the development team, 1.8.0 would be the last large-scale update are working on and that they do not intend to do any more multi-year long updates in the future. This does not mean that development will cease at 1.8. Rather, 1.9+ will be smaller scope and should have much shorter development times.

1.8.0 was released on November 25th, 2022 and was focused on adding new content from Mega Man & Bass,some content Mega Man 8 that returned in this game, content from the Game Boy instalments, a handful of unique Mega Man Maker unique builder items, as well as Fortress Bosses. 1.8 also brought performance upgrades in loading, creating, saving and playing levels to reduce lag. From the Mega Man & Bass side, 1.8 added 3 new bosses and 6 weapons as well as an assortment of Enemies , Level Objects, and tiles. Similarly from the Mega Man Gameboy side there is also 3 new bosses and 6 weapons along with the level objects, enemies, and tiles.

There is one new cameo weapon, Über Chain, which is inspired on Team Fortress 2 and was added due to Luigi liking the game.

About Development

The Development cycle of 1.8.0 was notoriously cursed according JumpDashEvade. During development a lot of problems occurred which slowed down the development of the game.

  • At two different times the team experienced server failures and lost progress.
  • 3 members of the dev team had deaths in their family.
  • The server experienced a crash that led to various Mega Man Maker websites to be lost. This included the main website, the forums, the wiki and the bugzilla. The forums were not implmented in favor of popularizing the subreddit and the articles for the wiki had to be recreated.
  • Some dev team members had left the team.
  • Various host of real-life accidents including a car accident.

Changes

  • Hornet Roll now shows you his deployed shape while in editor and has a special icon instead of numbers.
  • Ratton and Skull Walker now enter the Danger Wrap bubble.
  • Quicksand is now ignored when climbing.
  • All item weapons can now carry blocks like item-3.
  • Molier direction can now be selected in the builder.
  • Petit Snakey, Icicle Teck, Cyber Gabyoall and Numetall will now try to stay stuck to a moving platform when they are below one.
  • Ice projectile made by Squidon is now properly affected by conveyors.
  • Battan now bounce back when hitting a bouncy ball from the side.
  • S.Arm blocks placed by the player can no longer crush bosses from the side.
  • When opening a menu in the builder, the mini-map will now automatically hide itself.
  • Tooltips on the play bar will now appears above the mini-map instead of below it.
  • On/Off Searchy now has the proper light effect under it to match the on/off state when off.
  • Fuse Laser Crawler will now deflect Jewel Satellite, Plant Barrier, Star Crash, Skull Barrier and Leaf Shield for consistency
  • Spike Platform now regain his solidity behavior directly except for the assets that are inside instead of no solidity at all.
  • Spike Platform won't kill enemies anymore when turning.
  • Press chain no longer disappear when the press is in a pit.
  • Press chain will now stick to the same solid instead of the nearest solid.
  • Gimmicks can no longer be screen-wiped.
  • Brown can no longer get crushed.
  • Icicle Teck turning into a solid no longer moves the player, but makes the player able to move freely inside of it until out.
  • Water is now less demanding in ressource inside levels and while in builder.
  • Conveyors are now less demanding in ressource inside levels and while in builder.
  • Rain will now auto-recalculate its size if the tiles are destroyed.
  • Checkpoint now have a vertical and horizontal activation option.
  • Platform now has an open or close option.
  • New colors for Astro Gate, Astro Buttons and Easy Platforms : Purple, Yellow, Pink, Cyan
  • New colors for Keys and Key Doors : Purple and Yellow-Pink
  • New colors for the Jump Through Platform : Purple, Yellow, Pink, Cyan
  • Teleporters will now have a Purple skin option.
  • Performance changes between 1.7 and 1.8 will affect saving and loading levels as well as playing larger levels with less lag.

Bug Fixes

  • Searchy was shown to have the correct color lights when triggering on/offs.
  • Search Snake now moves up and down walls and floors correctly. It no longer despawns when it touches the ground from a wall.
  • Blocky no longer clings to ceilings.
