Announced in the sixth anniversary video released on July 15, 2023, a Robot Master contest was held until July 22, 2023 for users to vote for the Robot Master they wished to see implemented in version 1.9.0. The voting options were restricted to the missing Robot Masters from the 8-bit games (Mega Man to Mega Man 6, Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10) with the exception of Gravity Man.

On November 14, 2023, Galaxy Man was revealed as the winner of the competition, receiving around 2400 votes. According to JumpDashEvade, Nitro Man was in second-place with around 2200 votes, Dust Man in third-place with around 1900 votes, and Needle Man was in last place with one vote.[1][2]

Trivia

  • Although the scope of the update was initially announced in the sixth anniversary trailer as adding content mainly from the games Mega Man 7, Mega Man 8, and Mega Man 11, it was later clarified afterwards by Luigi that content would be added from the games Mega Man 7 through Mega Man 11 with a main focus on the aforementioned games.
  • Some music themes by ALUMOX such as the Mega Man & Bass Robot Master boss theme will be "reworked or outright replaced" for 1.9.0.[3][4]
  • 1.9.0's release date was given an estimated timeline of August 2024 in the seventh anniversary trailer. However, on August 19, 2024, the update's release date was delayed by a few weeks beyond August 2024 "due to a combination of real life events causing parts of [the] team to be unavailable".
  • Level tags were initially announced to be implemented in the game client for Online after being given support in the game server in 1.8.0. However, their implementation was delayed as other features were prioritized instead.
