This page is for the protagonist of the main Mega Man series. For the first video game in the series, see Mega Man 1.

DLN-001, Mega Man (or DRN-001, Rockman, depending on localization) is a Robot Master created by Dr. Light as Rock for the purpose of being a lab assistant. He serves as the main protagonist of the Mega Man series. During the events of Mega Man, Rock volunteered to become a super-fighting robot and was then named Mega Man (or Rockman). Mega Man was the only playable character in Mega Man Maker until the addition of Proto Man and Bass in version 1.3.0 and Roll in version 1.7.0.

In Mega Man Maker

As a playable character, Mega Man has no major gimmick to his design as opposed to the other characters. His Slide and Charge Shot can even be disabled to emulate controls of the earlier games in the series. Mega Man can only shoot three bullets out of his Mega Buster at any given time.

In the level settings menu, Mega Man has two settings specific to him: Charge Shot and Sliding. Enabling Charge Shot will allow Mega Man to charge his Mega Buster before firing. The type of charge shot (from 4, 5, or 6) can also be set. Enabling Sliding will allow Mega Man to slide, which provides additional mobility, as well as the ability to enter horizontal one-tile gaps. He cannot fall into one-wide holes but can slide over them and one-wide spike tiles.

Unlike other characters, he can have access to the Adaptors, special fusions with Rush to gain additional abilities, like flight and powerful punches. Proto Man's replacement of Rush consists of items, so he cannot fuse with them, Bass' only fusion is the Treble Boost, and Roll has no Adaptors for her companions.

Trivia

  • Mega Man has separate victory sprites for being midair, hanging on a ladder, being stuck in the sliding position, and using the Power Adaptor or Super Adaptor while performing any of the mentioned actions.
  • Mega Man's grounded victory pose is based on the Japanese Mega Man 1 title screen. Similarly, his aerial victory pose is based on the Japanese Mega Man 3 title screen.
  • The Mega Man 5 style charge shot has a larger hitbox than the others, meanwhile, the Mega Man 4 style has a deceptively tall hitbox.
