Music Changer is a level object that was added in the 1.7.0 release of Mega Man Maker.

As the name suggests, it allows the changing of music mid-level. Upon editing its settings in the editor, two options are available: selecting a level theme and the trigger. (The trigger can be one of three options: entering a disconnected screen with the music changer on it through a screen transition or passing through an invisible vertical or horizonal line.)

A stage's theme can also be changed upon defeating a boss by selecting the "Change music upon death" option for a boss. This will not end the level and instead change the stage theme instantly to the selected stage theme for the boss. If multiple bosses are active, the stage theme will change to the that of the boss last defeated once all active bosses are defeated.

Songs are available from the eleven numbered entries, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Mega Man & Bass, the Game Boy games, and a miscellaneous section for bonus tracks.

Trivia

  • According to Luigi, the music changer was planned to be added alongside the boss overhaul in 1.5.0 as the two features were similar thematically but was put aside due to the scope of the update.
  • On the live stream for 1.7.0 where the development team answered questions from the community, in response to a question asking if there were any unintended features that the development team decided to keep in for 1.7.0, WreckingPrograms mentioned that there exists an exploit to change the music during a boss fight to stage level music but did not go into details—the feature was kept in for "advanced users".
    • This exploit can be performed by passing through a music changer on a horizontal line during a boss' introduction phase. However, the level music will be overriden if the boss' introduction music is different from the boss fight music as is the case with Mega Man 8's Robot Master boss theme.
