The Yonbain is a floating, gelatinous cuboid entity that made its first appearance in Mega Man 10 as an enemy, originating from the stages of Solar Man and Punk. It also made in appearance in the game's Wily Castle stages. It has the ability to perform mitosis, and split into two identical copies of itself.

Yonbain debuted in version 1.9.0 of Mega Man Maker

Level Builder

The Yonbain is designated to the 6th layer of the editor (Close front), and as such, it can be placed over tiles, as well as some level objects. The Yonbain also has two customizable builder options, allowing for the manual selection of its color between pink, orange, and purple, and the ability to change its splitting direction between the horizontal or vertical axis, which will effect its signature ability of dividing into two duplicates. The color of the Yonbain is only an aesthetical difference and has no effect on its attributes.

Behavior

After spawning, the Yonbain will initially float in place, before blinking to signify its next action. It will then dash a distance of 4 tiles towards the player's position, slowly losing momentum before slowing to a halt. After stopping, the Yonbain will split in two (either horizontally or vertically depending on how its builder options were set), producing two carbon copies of itself with the same attributes. The two Yonbains will then blink to indicate their next attack, repeating the cycle of behavior. The clones of the Yonbain are also capable of splitting apart into duplicates after attacking, although only a maximum of 4 descendants of the initial enemy or "parent" can exist at once on the same screen, with a set of four Yonbains only being prompted to split apart in order to replace one when it is destroyed. As such, each and every Yonbain placed in the Level Builder is capable of splitting into up to four duplicates without being forced to compete for a shared capacity.

Trivia

  • The Yonbain is rather similar to another enemy - the Petit Devil from Mega Man 9 - as they are both floating, gelatinous robots with cyclopean eyes and the ability to split apart into duplicates of themselves.
    • In addition to this, in a similar manner to how the Petit Devil bares resemblance to the Twin Devil, one of the Wily Bosses of their debut game, the Yonbain bares resemblance to the Block Devil, one of the Wily Bosses of Mega Man 10. Both the Yonbain and the Block Devil are large, cuboid entities with the same ocular and gelatinous traits, and one of the Yonbain's palettes shares the color purple with the boss in question.
