Trio the Wheel is an enemy originating from Mega Man 7, resembling a small robot "piloting" a stack of spiked tires, and appearing in both Turbo Man's stage and the Wily Castle.
Trio the Wheel debuted in version 1.4.0 of Mega Man Maker.
Level Builder
Trio the Wheel is designated to the 5th layer of the editor, and and its initial facing direction can be set as either left or right.
Behavior
Initially, Trio the Wheel is a stationary enemy - but as it is made up of multiple segments, it can attack by flinging its individual tires as projectiles. Immediately after spawning, Trio the Wheel will fire its bottommost wheel in the direction it is facing. It will then wait momentarily, before firing the second, and eventually, the third. These wheels are affected by gravity, and can thus spin down slopes of tiles. Their speed can also be influenced by objects such as Conveyor Belts. Wheels are destroyed if they collide with any terrain in the direction they are moving, or if they successfully crash into the player, damaging them in the process - although they can also be manually destroyed by the player's own weapons or alternative sources of damage such as Hotplates. Each time Trio the Wheel fires a tire, its stack will grow shorter, and after firing thrice, its tires will be completely depleted. Once it has run out of tires, it will blink rapidly out of confusion before switching to a different state of behavior. In this state, Trio the Wheel's head will begin rapidly hopping around, with a jump height of around 6 tiles, bouncing off of any walls in the process, which will also change its facing direction.
Trivia
- Trio the Wheel's tire projectiles are unable to be reflected by Proto Man's shield, or weapons such as Shine.
- Trio the Wheel's stack of tires are counted as part of its main body before they are fired, and any damage received will still affect the head. Once a tire is fired, it is allocated its own health pool. This means that a minimum of 8 damage is required to destroy Trio the Wheel, but a maximum of 14 is possible.
- Trio the Wheel's design and properties could be considered derivative of the enemy Blocky from Mega Man 2, and thus, serves the role of its successor.
