The weapon consists of the user firing a morning star-like projectile straight in front of them that will then loop back around after a short distance and return to the user. The trajectory in which the weapon returns can vary according to the player's direction: if the player fires it while facing right, the weapon will go downwards when it is about to reach the maximum range before returning, while it will go upwards when the player is facing left.
The weapon can be fired at three different angles, for a total of 6 directions, a diagonally upwards angle in the player's facing direction, a diagonally downwards angle in the player's facing direction, and horizontally in the player's facing direction. Only two shots from the player can be on-screen at once.
- In Mega Man 6, Knight Crusher functions differently when used by Knight Man, in comparison to how it is used by the player.
- Knight Crusher is actually supposed to include a chain going from the buster to the ball, as the weapon is meant to be a medieval style morning star or "ball and chain". This can be seen as Knight Man's artwork includes the chain, though Mega Man's doesn't, implying that the technical limitation preventing the chain from appearing was discovered before that piece of art was made.
