The Bass Buster (or Forte Buster depending on localization) is Bass signature default weapon. The Bass Buster can fire rapid-fire pellets in seven directions, being unable to fire directly downward. These projectiles cannot be charged, nor can they pass through terrain. In addition, only four of these pellets can appear on screen at a time, and while firing from the ground with the exception of jumping, Bass is locked in place to assist the player in aiming. The player must be careful when jumping and shooting diagonally downward, since simultaneously pressing jump and down will make Bass dash, which can be inconvenient in some situations.
To limit the power of the rapid fire shot, Bass Buster's shots are weaker than other busters. However, he still deals 1 point of damage to Bosses, or more if they are set to be weak to the Bass Buster.
While using Treble Boost, the buster shots are altered. Firstly, the damage is increased to 1, as opposed to the typical 0.5 damage done by the rapid fire. The pattern of fire is also changed to a slower triple shot of pellets, and cannot be aimed. The buster shots can pass through walls unlike the normal shots. However, due to the alterations, the player cannot fire again until all shots hit their mark or fade off-screen. If Bass isn't fused with Treble, his shots will be like the Mega Buster's in appearance, firing and behavior.
Trivia
- In earlier appearances in the official games, the Bass Buster worked differently. In Mega Man 7, the minor shots were high-damaging blue lasers as opposed to pellets. In Mega Man 7's "Versus Mode" and his second boss appearance in the game, Mega Man: The Power Battle, and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Bass could charge his buster to fire a Charge Shot.
- In Mega Man & Bass, the pellets are shown to be purple, matching Bass's gemstone and eye markings (the latter of which are not generally visible in his sprite).
