The Merserker is a rocket-propelled robot designed to resemble a traditional battle-axe. It appeared as an enemy in Mega Man 10, namely in Blade Man's stage. It patrols its designated area by hopping around, with the intent of chopping apart any unwanted intruders.
Merserker debuted in version 1.6.0 of Mega Man Maker.
Level Builder
The Merserker is designated to the 5th layer, along with tiles and most level objects. It has zero customizable attributes or options.
Behavior
After spawning, the Merserker will set a range of around 8-9 tiles in each direction, establishing this area as its dedicated patrol zone. It will immediately jump through the air (even if it spawns in midair) towards the player's position, with each jump around 3 tiles in height, for a distance of around 1.5 tiles forwards. After jumping, it will briefly hover in the air with its thruster before plummeting downwards, in an attempt to crash its blade into the ground below. After landing, the Merserker will reset its pattern, and will be prompted to hop towards the player once more. However, the Merserker cannot pursue the player outside of its patrol zone, and thus, will turn around and jump in the opposite direction if its next movement would otherwise leave its designated area.
Liquid assets such as Water or Chemical Solution will drastically affect the trajectory of a Merserker's jump, as it will arc backwards after each successful leap. If the Merserker repeats its jumping pattern for long enough in sufficiently high water, it may eventually travel off-screen and despawn.
The Merserker is unaffected by level objects such as Conveyor Belts and Moving Cogs.
Trivia
- The Merserker is seemingly named after a "Berserker" - a common term for vikings and other norse warriors infamous for their skill in wielding axes, as well as their ability to enter a state of savage ferocity in the midst of combat. Its name might also reference the "Ono", otherwise known as the "Masakari" - the Japanese word for a battle-axe.
