The Katonbyon is a mosquito-esque enemy introduced in Mega Man 6, serving as a item transportation robot that drops spherical explosives. It appeared in Yamato Man's stage.
The Katonbyon debuted in version 1.4.0 of Mega Man Maker.
Level Builder
The Katonbyon facing direction can be set as either left or right. They are also designated to the Close Front layer, which means that they can be placed over objects such as tiles.
Behavior
The Katonbyon will fly forward in the direction it's facing, moving in a straight line and passing through any tiles. Once it enters a range of around 1.5 tiles to the player on the horizontal axis, it will drop its payload of explosives - a large, spherical bomb - directly downwards, which can be completely avoided if the player stands perfectly still. The bomb will explode upon contact with any terrain, even if it is released while the Katonbyon is inside of a wall. If the bomb is shot at and destroyed, it will not explode. The explosion itself is also rather harmless, as it is incapable of damaging the player or destroying any typically fragile level objects, and the player will only take damage through a direct collision with the bomb itself.
Trivia
- The bomb will not explode if it lands on level objects such as the Crash Lift or the Water Hover, and will simply lie there stationary, damaging the player on contact.
- Before the bomb is dropped, the Katonbyon and its explosive are considered to be the same enemy, which means that eliminating it will instantly destroy the bomb as well.
