The Octone is a robotic octopus enemy originating from Mega Man 9, who hides within a large, pot-like vessel to protect itself from harm. It first appeared as one of the primary foes in Splash Woman's stage, before returning in the game's second Wily Castle stage for an encore.
Octone debuted in version 1.9.0 of Mega Man Maker.
Level Builder
The Octone is designated to the 5th layer, along with tiles and most level objects. It has no special settings that can be adjusted.
Behavior
Initially, the Octone will lie dormant within its pot, hiding away from the player's view. In this state, it is nigh invincible, and cannot be damaged by most weapons, merely reflecting their projectiles. However, once the player enters a range of around 5 tiles away, or the vessel is struck by a projectile, the Octone will emerge to fire a spherical glob of ink towards the player. These globs are affected by gravity, and will splatter against any terrain rather than passing freely through it. After firing the glob, the Octone will retreat back into its pot, momentarily re-emerging to fire another if the player has yet to leave the vicinity or if another shot is fired at its hiding place. If the player is struck by one of the globs, they will be completely covered in ink in addition to taking damage. The ink effect is only for aesthetical purposes, and changes the color of the player's sprite, but it does not affect gameplay in any significant way other than making it slightly harder to tell which weapon is currently equipped. The ink will be removed once the player dies, or restarts at their last checkpoint. As the Octone emerges to attack, it is capable of being damaged and destroyed.

Trivia
- The Octone is a very similar enemy to the Brown from Mega Man 6, as they both fire projectiles that are affected by gravity, hide in containers to avoid taking damage, and can be forced to emerge from their hiding places when shot at.
- The Octone is capable of being damaged from within its pot if the small portion of its head peeking out of the top is successfully struck with a projectile. This is most easily achievable through weapons affected by gravity (Block Dropper, Salt Water, et cetera) or with multidirectional weapons (Hornet Chaser, Commando Bomb, et cetera), but with enough precision, an Octone can be killed with only the Mega Buster without ever emerging.
- The Octone's defenses are capable of being countered through the use of piercing weapons such as Laser Trident and Solar Blaze, which can pierce through the pot to damage them without being prompted to emerge.
- In addition, some explosive weapons are capable of piercing the Octone's defenses as well, such as Hyper Bomb and Crash Bomber.
