Penpen EV is a penguin-like robot enemy that appeared in Mega Man 8, introduced in Mega Man Makers 1.5.0 update. Penpen EV is an upgraded version of the Penpens from Mega Man 3. It also reappears in Cold Man's stage in Mega Man & Bass.
This enemy sits in place spinning slowly. When receiving attacks that do not destroy it upon contact, it is pushed and can bounce off the terrain: the stronger the attacks and the more it is attaacked before being destroyed, the faster it will be pushed. Once stationary for about two seconds, it prepares to slide in the player's direction by lying over its belly and preparing its rocket. During this time and while it slides, the player cannot push the Penpen EV with their weapons. When the rocket pushes it, the Penpen EV goes sliding in floor quickly and for relatively long time. The Penpen EV can also still be shot with frontal projectiles if the player and the Penpen EV are at the same height while it is sliding. Additionally, it can pass through one-tile high small corridors, like Mega Man can during the Slide. When colliding with walls, it is pushed to the opposite direction. If it has not been despawned and remains stationary, it will return to the spinning position and repeat its pattern.
It is affected by gravity and can fall off terrain. If its rocket slide pushes them away from terrain with a set height, it is boosted by the direction it is sent.
Trivia
- Penpen EVs in Mega Man & Bass acts exactly like in Mega Man 8 except that shots no longer push it.
- In Mega Man 8 and Mega Man & Bass, if Mega Man and a Penpen EV are at the same terrain level, Mega Man cannot shoot an uncharged Mega Buster at a Penpen EV while it is sliding or preparing to slide as the uncharged projectile in those games are too small and too high to reach them. However, he can shoot them frontally in Mega Man Maker at those moments.
