The Diarn is a floating robotic enemy, originating from Mega Man 9, whom wears two large diamonds as an invincible "shell", to deflect enemy projectiles and keep them out of harm's way. It appeared in Jewel Man's stage, and promptly reappeared in the third stage of Mega Man 9's Wily Castle.

Diarn debuted in version 1.5.0 of Mega Man Maker.

Level Builder

The Diarn is designated to the 6th layer of the editor (Close front), and as such, it can be placed over tiles, as well as some level objects. It comes in two distinct colors which can be freely selected - a seafoam green, and a pinkish magenta, which will effect the color of the Diarn's jewel. Its attributes and abilities remain unchanged regardless of color.

Behavior

After spawning, the Diarn's shell is initially closed, and as such, it is invulnerable to attack. It will instantly begin moving a distance of 3.5 tiles in a straight direction towards a randomly selected point near the player's position (typically above them at a higher vantage point), and then open up to shine its jewel and fire a pellet projectile directly towards the player, which will travel in a straight line and pass through any terrain. After doing so, it will shut its shell and wait momentarily before repeating the pattern. If a Diarn in its shielded state is struck by any projectile from most weapons, such as the Mega Buster, it will simply reflect the attack and take no damage. As such, it can only be shot at and destroyed during the brief intervals in which it opens to fire its projectile.

Trivia

• The Diarn is extremely similar in behavior to other enemies such as the Pukapelly and Propeller Eye - flying adversaries who move a set distance at regular intervals. It is particularly similar to the latter, as both the Diarn and the Propeller Eye have shields and are only capable of being destroyed after moving.
• The Diarn's diamond shell is almost completely impenetrable, as traditional piercing weapons such as Laser Trident and Solar Blaze cannot bypass its defenses in any way, shape, or form.
  • The Hyper Bomb and the Black Hole Bomb are, however, capable of destroying the Diarn in its shielded state, although these weapons are not classified as piercing.
