The Submarine Flier is an enemy first introduced in Mega Man 6 - its only appearance being in Centaur Man's stage. It is a flying submarine robot armed with a cloud barrier that allows it to float through the air with ease.
Submarine Flier debuted in version 1.7.0 of Mega Man Maker.
Level Builder
The Submarine Flier takes up a space of 2x2 tiles in the editor, and it is designated to layer 6 - Close Front, which allows it to be placed over most tiles and level objects. Its starting state (from between flying and swimming) can be determined manually, and as such, the cloud barrier can be freely removed.
Behavior
The Submarine Flier will initially begin in its clouded state - where it will idly float towards the player's position through the air, only dealing damage upon contact. Any damage dealt to the Submarine Flier in this state will be directed towards the cloud barrier instead, and will leave the Submarine Flier itself completely unharmed. However, the cloud barrier can be destroyed by most weapons, and if the Submarine Flier crashes into a wall or water, its cloud will immediately dissipate. It will also pop out of its cloud if the player aligns itself with it on the vertical axis. Once the cloud has disappeared, the Submarine Flier will fall straight downwards, damaging the player upon collision and falling through any and all tiles, until it comes into contact with water. Once the Submarine Flier lands in water, it will briefly pause before entering its second state of behavior, where it will propel itself towards the player's position while lobbing pellet projectiles which travel in an arc. These pellets, unlike the projectiles of the Hothead, do not have seemingly infinite range that scales based on player position. In this state, the Submarine Flier can be damaged and destroyed as any other enemy would. If the player passes it, the Submarine Flier will reverse direction to continue its pursuit. It will never move out of water once submerged.
Trivia
- The Submarine Flier can be considered an upgraded model of the Bomb Flier from Mega Man 3, as they are both military-grade robots armed with cloud barriers for transportation (which also double as defense).
