Party Balls are a level gimmick in Mega Man Maker, featured in the Misc section of the Boss tab. Similarly to Energy Elements, they are a non-fighting alternative to bosses for clearing a level, in this case achieved by the player attacking it.
Behavior
Party Balls will remain in the location placed in the editor during a level, hovering slightly up and down in place. Party Balls are unaffected by gravity or other objects other than the player's weapons: upon being attacked, the player will have their controls locked as the victory fanfare plays, though the player will still be affected by pits and objects, and the player may die during the process. When shot at by a projectile by the player's weapon, a Party Ball will immediately absorb and despawn the weapon projectile.
Although the player can destroy more than one Party Ball at a time, any Party Ball destroyed after the first one has no effect on the level ending and is purely visual.
Fixed Bugs
- Prior to version 1.0.1, the player could add multiple bosses by placing a Party Ball, removing it, then adding another boss.
- Prior to version 1.0.4, the player could place both a boss and a Party Ball in a level, play the stage and beat it through the Party Ball then place another boss.
Trivia
- The functionality of Party Balls in Mega Man Maker is taken directly from Mega Man Powered Up where user-made levels without a boss feature a Party Ball to end the level.
- Prior to version 1.3.4, Mega Man's level mugshot was used if a level contained a Party Ball or an Energy Element. This was changed to a dedicated level icon featuring a Party Ball and an Energy Element in version 1.3.4.
