The Sumatran is a large, mechanical tiger from Mega Man 5, and an enemy in Napalm Man's stage, as well as the Dark Man stages. It also made an appearance in Mega Man IV.

Sumatran debuted in version 1.7.0 of Mega Man Maker.

Level Builder

Sumatran's color can be set to orange (as it appeared in Napalm Man's stage) or a light, silvery grey (as it appeared in the Dark Man stages). The color has no effect on its attributes or abilities.

Behavior

The Sumatran has a simple pattern of movement and attack, but it is rather mechanically complex. When spawned, the Sumatran will lie completely still, until the player presses the fire key, or enters a range of around 5 tiles away from it on the horizontal axis. Once one of these two conditions have been met, the Sumatran will begin its assault by repeatedly leaping forward in the direction of the player. The Sumatran will not turn around and change direction unless it directly collides with a wall. It will not stop jumping unless it directly damages the player, which will reset its pattern.

The height of a Sumatran's jump is affected by Water, Chemical Solution, and Gravity Fields, but oddly, not by the Low Gravity Section.

Trivia

  • The Sumatran's jump is not actually triggered by any sort of projectile, but rather, any usage of the fire button. Even if the player attempts to fire a projectile with Nothing, the Sumatran will go on the offensive.
  • The name "Sumatran" is derived from the Sumatran Tiger population of tigers in Indonesia.
